Tumeric: One of Nature's Most Powerful Healers & Great For SKIN

Tumeric
Ever wonder why women from India have such beautiful skin? Well, not only do they take great care of their skin, but they have been utilizing this amazing spice for centuries.Tumeric has many healing qualities. Not only is it an excellent anti-oxidant, but it is renowned for its anti-inflammatory, and skin healing properties.
I take the supplements daily , and try to incorporate the spice in my cooking from time to time. You can also apply it directly to the face. Here are a few recipes...
  •  Mix a little turmeric with cucumber or lemon juice and apply to your face. Leave it for 10-15 min then wash off. If you do this consistently it will help to even out the skin tone and help fade pigmentation on the face.
  • Turmeric mixed with sandalwood powder and a little water, and applied to the face can greatly reduce the appearance of acne
  • For an all over body scrub. Mix some turmeric with flour and water and use it to scrub all over your body before your shower. Doing this regularly will help you get glowing skin.
  •  For pregnant women; try applying a mixture of turmeric with yogurt to the belly and then wipe off after five minutes. If you continue this regularly, throughout pregnancy it will help to the maintain the elasticity of the skin and prevent stretch marks.
  • Regular washing with turmeric also reduces facial hair growth significantly.
  • In India they often prefer to apply a paste of turmeric to minor cuts, bruises and bumps to reduce the swelling since it is such a great anti-inflammatory. Its antiseptic properties are also perfect for using it for minor cuts, wounds and abrasions. It helps to speed up the healing process of the skin.
*A few more benefits of Tumeric include:
-May prevent melanoma, and help to kill off existing melanoma cells
-It is a natural liver detoxifier
-Used in Chinese Medicine to treat depression
-A powerful cancer fighter
-Used to prevent osteoporosis( prepare w/milk)

Enjoy some Tumeric for good health and great skin! XOXO

Quick Fix It #4: Fine Lines

Quick Fix It #4: Fine Lines -  First you want a good moisturizer. A good hydrated face helps to soften facial lines. Then apply a primer or target product that contains either silicone, or a filling product like hyaluranic spheres.  L'Oreal Wrinkle De-Crease Collagen Filler Wrinkle Reducer contain Boswelox and some sort of a collagen mimic bio-sphere that helps to fill in the lines temporarily. Kiehls also has a new product on the market called Double Strength Deep Wrinkle Filler that has gotten some good reviews. Pick your product, dab it on gently and voila! Apply a light reflecting foundation which will help to diminish the appearance of the fine lines by minimizing the shadows around them.

I hope these quickie tips help! Good luck XOXO

Quick Fix It #3: Loss of Firmness and Elasticity

Quick Fix It #3: Loss of Firmness and Elasticity; To achieve firm skin, Egg whites are the cheapest way to get great temporary results. Not only will egg whites tighten the skin, but they can naturally draw out excess oil, shrink visible pores, infuse the surface of the skin with naturally-occurring vitamins such as Vitamin A,  destroy acne-causing bacteria, and help slough off dead surface skin cells (thanks to the lysozymes which occur naturally in egg whites).
Directions: Beat 1-2 egg whites until the mix is nice and foamy then use a mask brush or finger tips  and apply in thin layers. You will immediately feel your skin tighten. Leave on as long as possible (15 min or up to an hour if you have the time). Wash off and enjoy firm skin for the day.

If money is not a concern, there are a lot of products that will temporarily tighten your skin as well. Try Mario Badescu's  Temp Lifting Mask, Peter Thomas Roth's Firm X, Lise Watier's Instant Lifting Serum...They will all get the job done.

Quick Fix it #2 " The Monster Pimple "

Quick Fix it #2 "The Monster Pimple"; The night before you want to apply a honey/lemon mask. ( Mix honey with the juice from half a lemon). Honey is both anti-bacterial and hydrating, and the lemon will help to suck any excess oil out of the monster zit. Leave it on for 10 -15 minutes then wash off. Then you want to apply either a strong salicylic acid (at least 2%) to the pimple or a 10% glycolic acid serum ( I love H2V's G10 serum from Burke Williams- it contains a 10% glycolic + acai berry which is loaded with antioxidants so it helps to combat the inflammation while its exfoliating).
The morning of the big day, you can use the tea bags once again, because the ice cold green tea bags will help to reduce the redness and inflammation. After the compress...last but not least you want to smash up pure aspirin ( a great anti-inflammatory) with some water to create a paste.  Apply the paste to the pimple and let it sit for about 15 min. Wash off and dab make-up gently over the area. Never use a concealer that is lighter than your skin to cover the pimple, it will enhance it and make it look bigger. Also, too much make-up will make it look worse!

Quick Skin Fix Its; Big Events, Photo Shoots, Filming...

I have clients who are always running off to events, shoots, auditions... and need immediate results. After listening to their most common concerns, I have made a list of some tips that really work for big day skin fix-its. I will be sharing a tip with you each day this week on how to fix Puffy Eyes and Dark Circles, Monster Pimples, Fine Lines, and Loss of Elasticity and Firmness.

Quick Fix it #1: Puffy Eyes and Dark Circles ; The night before you should try to get at least 8 hours of restful sleep. The morning of... brew 2 green tea bags, wrap them in a paper towel and put them in the freezer for about 15 min.  After getting them nice and cold, lay down for another 15 min with one tea bag over each eye. The cold bags, along with the caffeine, tannins and green tea will help the swelling go down and help to brighten the eye area. Follow with an eye cream that contains Vitamin K, this will help with the dark circles. Cover with a concealer that has yellow/orange undertones to neutralize the dark circles.

Follow me tomorrow for Quick Fix It #2 "The Monster Pimple" XOXO

SKIN CARE TIP OF THE DAY

SKIN TIP OF THE DAY: SIP some Green Tea; take a break from the coke and coffee and enjoy some hot or iced green tea. Preferably without the sugar or flavor enhancing flavors added. If you need it sweet, add honey (also great for skin)! Green tea is filled with antioxidants and polyphenols, which help fight inflammation, aging and cancer.
